Introduction to UNIX

 

 Description

    This three day course introduces students to the user interface of the UNIX operating system.  The course covers the structure of the UNIX operating system and describes its evolution.  Students will learn how to use the vi editor, manipulate files and directories, and how to customize the user environment.  The course includes an introduction to shell programming and a discussion of the special features of the shell.

Exercises and lab problems are used throughout the course to reinforce the lecture materials.  The labs give students experience with the special features of the UNIX environment.

The course is intended for software engineers, programmers and technical managers.  No previous experience with UNIX is required.
