Advanced
UNIX:
Utilities
and Shell Programming
Description
This five day
course covers advanced features of the UNIX operating system.
The course is essentially divided into two parts:
the first two days cover UNIX utilities, and the last three days cover
shell programming. The sed, awk and
grep file manipulation utilities are covered over the first two days.
Students learn to use these utilities to manipulate text, analyze the
syntax of expressions, etc.
The Bourne and
the C shell are covered in the section on shell programming.
(Customers may change the shell programming part of the course to cover
the Korn shell rather than the Bourne and C shells.)
Students learn to create and debug interactive scripts that automate
routine functions.
Exercises and lab
problems are used throughout the course to reinforce the lecture materials.
Students will gain experience writing and debugging shell scripts, and in
using file manipulation utilities.
The course is
intended for software engineers and programmers who want to increase their
skills in UNIX programming. A basic
knowledge of UNIX is required.
