Perl Programming

 Description

This five day course introduces students to the Practical Extraction and Report Language (Perl).  Perl combines the best of the shell programs and the C programming language into a powerful tool.  It also contains enhancements to the sed, awk and grep file manipulation utilities.  With Perl, programmers can develop secure applications quickly and efficiently.

  The lectures emphasize the practical kinds of problems that can be solved using Perl.  Exercises and lab problems are used throughout the course to reinforce the lecture materials. Students will write programs that manipulate text, files and processes.

  The course is intended for software engineers and programmers who want to increase their skills in UNIX programming.  A  knowledge of UNIX, including shell programming and file manipulation utilities (such as awk, grep and sed), is required.

·        Pattern matching

·        Special operators and built in functions

·        Conditional constructs, subroutines

·        File handles and processes

·        Formatting reports
